R = Ram (intact male)
E = Ewe (female)
W = Wether (neutered/castrated male)

S = Single (one lamb born)
TW = Twins (two lambs born)
TR = Triplet (three lambs born)
QD = Quadruplet (four lambs born)
QT = Quintuplet (five lambs born)

CHM = Champagne

TPE = Taupe
CHL = Charcoal

are webbed horns)
SW = Supracervical Webbed
HW = Homonymous Webbed
MH = Multiple Horns/Polycerate Horns (include number of horns, Example: MH -5
indicates 5 horns)
IM = Immature, use when lamb is being registered and horn type or shape is unknown
HE = Horned Ewe
SE = Ewe with Scurs
PE = Polled Ewe
HORN COLOR
S = Solid Color
V = Variegated colors (mixed colors in striped)
Example: V are horns which are variegated black and white stripes.
CODON 171
This information, if provided, is listed only on the top portion of the Certificate of Registry
or Certificate of Recording for the sheep being registered. It is in relation to genetic
DNA testing for susceptibility of a disease called Scrapie. DNA testing at Codon 171 is
relatively new to the breeds represented by the United Horned Hair Sheep Association,
Inc., and it’s tracking is provided simply as an extra service to the members who may
choose to do this testing. Typical results are QQ, QR and RR.
D.O.B. = Date of Birth
ORDER OF ABBREVIATIONS USED ON CERTIFICATES of REGISTRY OR RECORDING:
Birth Number, Color, Color Pattern,Ear Type, Horn Type – Number of horns, Horn Color
– S (Solid) or V (Variegated)
